They bought 16 of them. They also bought Dell Vostro laptops. We would like to create a "master image" and after that clone the image to all Dell Vostro laptops. We performed a test and installed Office on the "master image" activated it and cloned it to another Vostro.
I was hoping there would be a way to change the product key, but I didn't find any option. The Vostro laptops came with Office pre-installed. We were not able to activate them with our product key. It's designed to be used by OEM's, but can be adapted for you.
It will just take a little homework on your part to implement. Since it's only 16 PC's it may be quicker to just push the install to all machines using GPO, a 3rd party tool, or network install from each machine and enter the license on each PC. The OPK's work well for mass imaging, but are a lot of work to setup.
In the time it takes to do it, you could be done installing individually on 16 PC's. Microsoft is trying to get away from boxed software licensing.
Office is much easier to deal with in that respect. Download the ISO, install on your base image, then all you need to do, or your users do, is activate by log in account on each PC, which each user can do on their own the first time they open Office. You cannot clone the Windows 10 OEM, successful activation does not necessary mean they are properly licensed.
Note that the Office that came with the Dell notebooks are starter kits only unless he ordered with Ms office OEM Then you also clone retail versions of the Office that you purchased. You have to install over the MS office starter kit and enter the license key from the retail box for each. I for one am not recommending to clone machines but rather explaining how activation works in the new machines. The key is not visible to the user anymore.
The Dell they purchased came with Office starter kit or something like Office evaluation. So they would have to un-install it. Thanks - yes I understand that. The offliner installer would be in the master image. Your best bet would be to do a clean install of Windows to remove the OEM Office and Dell bloatware they have a lot of it.
Then install and activate the new office. When the image deploys, Office will be unactivated and request either a sign in or a activation key on first launch.
We have deployed dozens of new Dell SFF's with a custom image and activation of Office never carries through. In this case I can pre-installed office to the reference image like OEMs do..
